CVM – Christian Vision for Men

Throughout my Christian life, especially my time as a church leader, I can only recall being told of one way to lead men to Jesus and that was, “Get the kids into church first and the parents will follow.” Had I known then what I do now I think I would give these ‘advice givers’ a swift slap for the level of untruth in this statement. Ok, that would be a bit of an over reaction, but the truth of the matter is mind blowing.

If a child gets saved there is a 3% chance their parents will follow.

If the wife gets saved there is a 26% chance her husband and children will follow. BUT… if the man of the house gets saved there is a 93% chance the rest of the family will follow!

So, for years, if not decades, we have been basing our entire men’s evangelism strategy on the 3% and missing out on the possible 93%. Now you would think this problem is easily resolved by focusing on reaching out to men, however it is not that simple, there is another problem.

A recent survey conducted by Christian Vision for Men (CVM) and ‘Sorted Magazine’ shows the real truth of the matter. In the last 20 years churches in the UK have suffered a loss of 49% of men under the age of 30. For all ages from 18 – 80 it’s a 38% loss. If this trend continues it could lead to the wipe out of men in church by the year 2030!

In a nutshell, we are losing the guys we have at a phenomenal rate and are depending on the children to bring their Fathers to Jesus. Hard-hitting, I know, but these are the facts and the challenges that face us as The Church.

At CVM we want to get along side the local church, help them, resource them, work with them in seeing men won for Jesus. We want to see men in the local church rise up, take a stand, and become active members of their communities – not locking themselves away at home in front of a TV, computer or Xbox!

We are looking forward to partnering with ‘Rejoice Always’ by addressing head on the ‘stuff’ Christian men struggle with, and providing a much-needed ministry for men.

“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding – indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.” (Prov 2:1 – 8)

Footnote: CVM is a movement, not an organisation. It’s a catalyst for an emerging band of brothers across the UK who want to see the nation won for Jesus. Wherever there are passionate, energetic followers of Christ, who are focused on introducing men in the UK to Jesus, exciting them in their faith and equipping them to live the adventure, CVM is right behind them.
