Want to Break Free?

Do you feel trapped, ensnared or bound in any way? Is your life peaceful, joyous and are you content? What is your expectation of life? Have you become so conditioned to worry and care that you see it as normal? Is life just hard work, more of a chore to be endured than an adventure to be enjoyed? If so then read on, this article could be the beginning of a whole new chapter in your life.

I want to share with you one man’s mission plan for life, but not just any man. This man was called Jesus, and He was the Son of the one true and living God. He told his followers that He had been sent by God to show them what God was like and bring in the reign of God’s Kingdom here on earth. One day at the beginning of His time of teaching others about God, He got up in His local church to read. This was actually a synagogue because Jesus was born and brought up a Jew. He read from an ancient scroll containing the words of a prophet who lived hundreds of years before Jesus was born, called Isaiah. Today we have these same words written in a book called Isaiah, in the Old Testament, which is the part of the Bible which predates the life of Jesus. This story is recorded in the New Testament section of the Bible, in an account of the life of Jesus as told by a local doctor at the time, called Luke. You can check it out for yourself by looking up the book of Luke, chapter 4 verses 16 to 21, or see Isaiah’s words in chapter 61 of his book. Here they are written out for you as Luke recorded them:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed, who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity, to proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord, the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound.”

After Jesus read these words He told those who were listening, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled”. He was telling them that this was His mission here on earth. I don’t know about you, but to me that sounds pretty amazing, but what is more amazing is that the rest of the book that Luke wrote goes on to tell us of how Jesus put this into practice. These  were not just nice-sounding but empty words. No! Jesus went about doing miracles of bringing sight to blind eyes, enabling cripples to walk and bringing freedom to those oppressed of evil spirits. However what is even more amazing is that this Jesus is still alive and well and doing the same thing in the lives of people like you and me today. Just turn over the pages of this magazine and you will find real life stories from people you can go and talk to, who will tell you that this same Jesus is still in the business of transforming lives, lives like yours, into what He created them to be.

What blinds, cripples and has us in bondage is what the Bible calls sin, rebellion towards God, but the good news is that Jesus can forgive us of this sin and make us right with God, so that our past can be put in the past and our future can become what He intended it to be, which is life in all its fullness. If you would like to know more about this freedom and new life in Jesus do give us a call at the office; we would love to share more of this good news with you.
